At long sight, this approach results in (1) processing and maintenance overheads through redundancy and contradicting information across data silos, (2) significant communication overhead across departments due to the lack of a unified view on logically related ? yet physically separated ? information, and (3) suboptimal business decisions due to the loss of transparency for decision makers.\n \nIn this talk we present the idea of Semantic Master Data Management, which leverages semantic technologies, tools, and standards to build a unified layer that interlinks information from various data sources. We discuss challenges and opportunities of a semantics-based architecture ? from data integration, collaborative knowledge management, to generic paradigms for searching, visualizing, and exploring the semantic data corpus. \nThe discussion of technical aspects is accompanied by a real-world use case with a customer in the data center management domain implemented using the Information Workbench, a holistic semantic data management platform. In the talk, we will demo the outcome and sketch problems, benefits, and lessons learnt while implementing the real-world scenario.
